Historical and Architectural Structure
Kuruçeşme Han, also known as Hanönü Han, was built in 1207 during the second reign of Seljuk Sultan Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev I. Located along the Konya-Beyşehir route, this han is one of the most significant Seljuk caravanserais on the historic Silk Road.
The han has a rectangular plan extending east to west, consisting of a courtyard and a covered shelter area. A majestic portal (taçkapı) is located on the eastern façade. This portal features a pointed arch entrance, leading into the structure through a deep iwan.
🕌 Key Architectural Features of the Han:
✔ Courtyard Section:
▫ The courtyard is surrounded by arcades along the northern and southern sides.
▫ On both sides of the courtyard, there are rooms covered with barrel vaults.
▫ A mihrab niche on the qibla wall of the southern room indicates that this area was once used as a mosque.
✔ Enclosed Shelter Section:
▫ Divided into three naves, with a large vaulted space.
