Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls – A Natural Wonder Flowing from the Taurus Mountains
Located in the Yahyalı district of Kayseri, Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls are among Turkey’s most spectacular natural attractions. Comprising seven cascading waterfalls — five large and two small — this breathtaking site captivates visitors with its height, powerful flow, and serene mountain setting.
🌊 The Power and Beauty of Kapuzbaşı
Each waterfall in the Kapuzbaşı group ranges from 40 to 80 meters in height and has the force to feed its own stream. The falls flow strongly throughout the year, making them one of the largest and most consistent waterfalls in Turkey.
Kapuzbaşı is considered the second highest waterfall in the world in terms of altitude drop, surpassing famous waterfalls like Niagara (USA), Imatra (Finland), Düden and Manavgat (Antalya), and even Tortum (Erzurum) — with the exception of Victoria Falls in Uganda. The altitude of the area where the waterfalls flow is approximately 700 meters above sea level.
🌿 Within Aladağlar National Park
Kapuzbaşı Waterfalls are situated within the Aladağlar National Park, a protected area known for its dramatic landscapes, wildlife, and trekking routes. For hikers exploring the Adana–Kayseri crossing route, Kapuzbaşı is one of the key resting and camping spots, especially on the fourth day of the five-day hike.
During summer months, this high-altitude region — around 2,000 meters above sea level — offers a cool climate and stunning scenery. Water from the Aladağ and Aksu streams tumbles down from 70 meters at seven different points, creating a misty spray that refreshes the area and provides relief from the heat.
🧺 A Perfect Spot for Picnics & Nature Walks
Surrounded by pine-covered slopes and rich flora, the waterfalls offer designated picnic areas where families and nature lovers can spend a peaceful day. The soothing sound of rushing water, clean mountain air, and panoramic views make it a top destination for outdoor recreation, photography, and trekking along Kayseri’s most popular hiking trails.
