History of Aziziye Mosque
One of the most striking Ottoman structures in Konya, Aziziye Mosque was originally built between 1671 and 1676 by Sheikh Ahmed. However, after suffering damage from a fire, it was rebuilt in 1867 by Pertevniyal Valide Sultan, the mother of Sultan Abdülaziz. Constructed with Gödene stone, this mosque is considered one of the most unique examples of late Ottoman architecture.
Architectural Features
🏗 Ottoman Baroque Style: The mosque was built in the Turkish Baroque architectural style.
🪟 Large Windows: The windows are designed to be larger than the doors, creating a luminous interior.
🕌 Prayer Hall Entrance: The mosque features a three-domed entrance area, supported by six marble columns.
🌟 Elegant Minarets: At both ends of the entrance, two slender minarets with fountain bases and domed covers stand gracefully.
