History of Selimiye Mosque
Selimiye Mosque was commissioned by Ottoman Sultan Selim II during his governorship of Konya. Construction began in 1558 and was completed in 1567. As one of the most significant representations of classical Ottoman architecture in Konya, its design closely resembles Istanbul’s Fatih Mosque.
Located right next to the Mevlana Museum, this magnificent structure has historically served as an important place of worship and gathering for the Mevlevi dervishes. Reflecting Konya’s spiritual and historical essence, Selimiye Mosque remains a key site for both worship and visitors today.
