The History of Kubadâbâd Palace
Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad I was captivated by the natural beauty of Lake Beyşehir while traveling from Kayseri to Antalya and ordered the construction of a palace in this area. Completed in 1236, this magnificent structure is regarded as one of the most significant examples of Seljuk palace architecture.
The palace was built under the supervision of Seljuk vizier and chief architect Sadeddin Köpek, following a blueprint personally drawn by the Sultan. Kubadâbâd Palace was not just designed as a summer residence but also as the center of a planned city.
As the only surviving Seljuk palace complex, Kubadâbâd continues to reveal its grandeur through its breathtaking tiles and ruins. Excavations since 1980 have been uncovering more of the palace’s splendor.
