🕰️ A House with Historical Significance

Originally built between 1875–1880 by carpet trader Takfor Efendi as a private residence.Used as a headquarters by the Turkish army when they entered İzmir in 1922.On February 12, 1923, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed here for the first time during the İzmir Economic Congress.Between 1930 and 1934, Atatürk stayed in this house during each of his five visits to İzmir.

🏛️ Becoming a Museum

In 1926, İzmir Municipality purchased the building and presented it to Atatürk.On September 11, 1941, marking the 19th anniversary of Atatürk’s arrival in İzmir, it opened as a museum.Restored and reopened in 1978 as the Atatürk and Ethnography Museum.After ethnographic artifacts were moved in 1988, it became solely the Atatürk Museum.Underwent further restoration from 1999 to 2001 and reopened in 2002.
