🏰 Nevşehir Castle was built on one of the highest points of the city, serving as a defensive stronghold for centuries. Constructed using volcanic rock and tuff stone, the fortress features a cylindrical plan.
🛡️ The castle is reinforced with four symmetrically placed round bastions. Its restored walls and 46 small internal chambers highlight the advanced defensive system of the time.
🏞️ Today, the central courtyard has been converted into a park, offering visitors a panoramic view of Nevşehir. With scenic walking paths, the castle provides an excellent opportunity for photography enthusiasts and history lovers.
Kayaşehir: The Mysterious Underground History of Nevşehir
🌄 Located just beneath Nevşehir Castle, Kayaşehir is recognized as one of the world’s largest rock-carved and underground cities. For centuries, people built this vast subterranean settlement, creating a unique living space beneath the earth.
🏚️ Kayaşehir consists of churches, tunnels, water cisterns, storage areas, and large living chambers. It is believed to have served as a major refuge during the Byzantine era, particularly in the 7th and 8th centuries.
