About
AYNALI CHURCH (FIRKATAN CHURCH)
One of the hidden treasures of Cappadocia, Aynalı Church is a unique rock-hewn church dating back to the 10th century, located just 1 km from Ortahisar. Unlike other churches in the region, its tunnel system leading to an upper floor makes it particularly fascinating.
WHY IS IT CALLED "AYNALI" (MIRRORED) CHURCH?
🔹 There are several theories behind the name "Aynalı" (Mirrored) Church:
✅ Frescoes and Decorations: The geometric patterns and wall decorations in brick-red tones create a reflective effect, giving the church its name.
✅ Light Effects: When sunlight enters at certain angles, the frescoes and patterns appear mirrored on the walls.
