About Çivril Tokalı Canyon

Located in Çivril, Denizli, Tokalı Canyon is one of Turkey's most breathtaking canyons, featuring towering rock walls and narrow passages. A 1200-meter-long section consists of rock formations that appear as if they were cut with a knife, with cliffs reaching up to 200 meters in height. The widest part of the canyon is 4 meters, while the narrowest point is only 1.5 meters.

For hiking and adventure enthusiasts, the canyon offers a challenging 7-8 hour trek. The journey involves hiking, climbing, and even swimming through certain sections. The most difficult point in the canyon is a massive 25-meter-high rock that has fallen, blocking the passage.

At the end of the canyon, broad valleys open up to the Çivril Plain, offering stunning views of Işıklı Lake and Gümüşsu Village. From the exit point, it is a two-hour hike to reach Gümüşsu Village.

The Legend of Çivril Tokalı Canyon

For many years, locals believed that the canyon was impassable, and no one dared to enter. According to legend, a golden-buckled door is hidden at the canyon's narrowest point. It is said that during the Roman era, 30 to 40 tons of gold were hidden behind this door. However, a massive rock fell, sealing the entrance, and no one has ever been able to reach the treasure.

Although it was long thought to be impossible to pass, on November 7, 1993, a team of 10 successfully explored and crossed the canyon for the first time.
