The History of Aşiyan Museum

The Aşiyan Museum is located in the house where the renowned Turkish poet Tevfik Fikret lived between 1906 and 1915. The poet designed the house himself and named it "Aşiyan," which means "nest" in Persian.

In 1940, the Istanbul Municipality purchased the house, and in 1945, it was converted into the Edebiyat-ı Cedide Museum. In 1961, Tevfik Fikret’s remains were transferred from Eyüp Cemetery to the museum’s garden, and the name was changed to Aşiyan Museum.

Today, the museum is managed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and preserves the memory of Tevfik Fikret and other significant figures in Turkish literature.
