🕰️ HISTORY AND DISCOVERY OF SOBESSOS

📌 Discovered in 2002, Sobessos was initially thought to be the capital of the Kingdom of Cappadocia, but further research did not confirm this claim.

📌 Excavations conducted between 2002-2005 and 2010-2011 revealed that the city dates back to the 4th century AD and served as a bishopric center during the reign of Emperor Leo VI (886-912 AD).

📌 In 2023, excavation efforts resumed under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to uncover more of the city and restore existing structures.

🏛️ STRUCTURES DISCOVERED IN SOBESSOS

🟢 Mosaic-Floored Assembly Hall

A 400 m² hall featuring 1,500-year-old mosaics made of colorful stone and glass tesserae.
