Zelve consists of three different valleys. In the First Valley, visitors can find Üzümlü (Grapevine) and Balıklı (Fish) Churches, a mill (Seten), and a winery. The Second Valley houses the Church of the Holy Cross, which is connected to the Third Valley by a long tunnel. 2. Üzümlü and Balıklı Churches

Part of an ancient monastic settlement, these two connected churches are believed to date back to the 10th century. Their walls are adorned with grapevine and fish motifs, which give them their names. The abundance of cross reliefs inside suggests that these churches belong to the Iconoclastic period.

3. The Winery (Şaraphane)

Winemaking has been a long-standing tradition in Cappadocia, and the Zelve Winery is a remarkable example of this heritage. In this two-story rock-carved structure, grapes were stomped on the upper floor, and the juice would flow down through a channel into storage jars, where it would ferment. Leftover grapes were also boiled into molasses in large cauldrons.

4. Church of the Holy Cross

Located in the Second Valley, this church is named after the cross reliefs carved into its interior walls. It contains large niches, tombs carved into the floor, and a partially preserved inscription above its entrance. These tombs are believed to belong to the monks who once served in the church.

5. Village Square and Monastic Complex

The Third Valley houses the remains of a village square, a monastery, and a rock-carved mosque. The monastic complex, carved into a massive rock formation, features domes and multiple chambers. Despite erosion damage, some parts of the structure have managed to survive.

6. Zelve Mosque

Rock-carved mosques are rare in Cappadocia, but Zelve features one of the few examples. The mihrab (prayer niche) is carved directly into the rock, and the four-column minaret with pointed arches reflects early Ottoman architectural influences.
