📜 A Glimpse into History

Commissioned in 1744 by Hacı Beşir Ağa,
who served as Dârüssaâde Agha (Chief Black Eunuch) during the reigns of Sultan Ahmed III and Sultan Mahmud I,
Kızlarağası Han has stood the test of time as a rare example of Ottoman architecture in İzmir.

Although a fountain inside the han bears the inscription 1675,
it is believed that the fountain was relocated from elsewhere,
or that an earlier fountain once stood on the same spot before the han was constructed.

🧱 Architectural Features

• 🏗️ Covers approx. 4,000 m² with a nearly square rectangular plan
• 🏛️ Two stories face the central courtyard, following the traditional caravanserai layout
• 🛍️ Includes two single-story covered bazaars (bedestens) named Çuha and Cevahir
• 🌿 The 500 m² courtyard offers space to relax and socialize

After a careful restoration between 1988 and 1993,
the han reopened as a tourist-oriented bazaar, blending history with local commerce.
